LAS VEGAS — Clark County officially kicked off Southern Nevada’s America250 celebration today, commemorating the upcoming 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States with a ceremonial event at the iconic “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign.
Commission Chairman Michael Naft hosted the ceremony along Las Vegas Boulevard, where the landmark sign was illuminated in red, white and blue to honor the milestone. The lighting display served as a visible tribute to the national America250 initiative, which marks the Semiquincentennial of the United States in 2026.
Volunteers dressed in authentic 1776-era attire brought elements of the nation’s founding period to life, creating an immersive historical atmosphere for attendees and passersby. Representatives from the Daughters, Sons and Children of the American Revolution were also recognized during the event for their ongoing work to preserve American history and educate the community about the nation’s origins.
The celebration at the “Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas” sign underscores Clark County’s participation in the broader, nationwide America250 effort. The initiative aims to reflect on the country’s founding principles, highlight historical preservation efforts, and encourage civic engagement ahead of the 250th anniversary in 2026.
County officials indicated that additional programming and commemorative events are expected throughout Southern Nevada as the anniversary approaches.
The illuminated sign along Las Vegas Boulevard stood as a symbolic reminder of the region’s role in honoring America’s past while looking toward its future.
