LAS VEGAS — Lionel Richie has been hospitalized following a weekend performance in St. Louis, putting new attention on the music legend’s upcoming concert schedule less than two months before he is scheduled to return to the Las Vegas Strip for a six-show engagement at Wynn Las Vegas.

ABC News reported Monday that Richie, 77, checked himself into a hospital after headlining a summer concert over the weekend. A source close to the singer’s tour told the network he sought medical attention “out of an abundance of caution.”

Richie performed Saturday, Aug. 29, at The Muny’s annual summer-finale concert in Forest Park in St. Louis. The venue had billed the appearance as a one-night-only concert closing out its summer season.

TMZ reported that Richie was admitted to an intensive care unit for testing and that doctors were looking into possible slight dehydration. The outlet also reported that he hoped to be discharged Tuesday. Those details were attributed to unnamed sources with direct knowledge of the situation and had not been confirmed through a public medical statement from Richie or his representatives at the time of publication.

People also reported that Richie was hospitalized following the St. Louis performance, during which he reportedly requested a chair near the end of the show.

Lionel Richie’s Las Vegas shows remain on the calendar

For Las Vegas fans and travelers holding tickets, the immediate question is whether the hospitalization will affect Richie’s return to Encore Theater.

As of Monday evening, Wynn Las Vegas continued to list all six performances of “Lionel Richie: King of Hearts” for October and November. All are scheduled for 8 p.m. at Encore Theater.

Richie’s official tour calendar independently lists the same six Las Vegas dates, with no cancellation or postponement notice posted as of publication.

His official calendar also lists performances in San Francisco on Sept. 26, Chicago on Sept. 30 and Columbus, Ohio, on Oct. 2 before the first scheduled Las Vegas show on Oct. 14.

Hospitalization follows an earlier health scare on tour

The St. Louis hospitalization comes a little more than two months after Richie experienced another health-related incident during a performance.

Richie became dizzy during a June 24 concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, and ended the show early. Two subsequent performances were postponed while he rested on doctors’ advice, according to People’s reporting on the earlier episode.

He returned to the stage June 30 in Pittsburgh and later reassured fans that he was doing well.

Despite widespread reports about the hospitalization, publicly confirmed medical information remains limited.

ABC News’ reporting establishes that Richie entered the hospital voluntarily as a precaution following the St. Louis performance. Reports about intensive-care treatment, testing and possible dehydration have come through other media sources rather than a public statement from Richie’s medical team or representatives.

There had also been no announcement Monday that Richie planned to suspend his remaining 2026 performance schedule.

Richie has had a longstanding presence on the Las Vegas entertainment circuit, and his “King of Hearts” show brings him back to the intimate Encore Theater for another multi-date engagement.
