Punx4Change was founded by local residents Roderick Scott and Freddie V with a mission focused on alleviating hunger and homelessness, even if only for a day.

“I struggled with my mental health, substance abuse, and homelessness in my youth and remember how hopeless I felt,” Scott said. “I know a lot of people go through this, so we banded together to lend a hand and let people know they’re not alone.”

Scott is also the frontman for the local punk band TerrorAttack and co-founded the nonprofit with Freddie V, the band’s former drummer.

The organization hosts outreach events every two to three months at the Owens Avenue site. During its most recent event in October, 44 volunteers served more than 400 people tacos and sandwiches. Attendees were also able to collect hygiene kits, blankets, and sweaters.

While food is secured for Sunday’s lunch service, organizers say additional donations are still needed, particularly healthy, shelf-stable snacks that guests can take with them.

Punx4Change is also seeking additional volunteers. Those interested can sign up at https://bit.ly/4qh7wq8.
