STOCKTON, Calif. (LVN) — A weekend family gathering in Stockton turned deadly after gunfire erupted inside a banquet hall Saturday evening, leaving four people dead and injuring several others, according to early information released by law enforcement.

The shooting occurred shortly before 6 p.m. at a venue on Lucile Avenue where relatives and guests had gathered for a celebration. Investigators say multiple people were struck when the shooter opened fire inside the building. Emergency crews transported several victims to area hospitals, while others were treated at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that four victims died as a result of the attack. At least ten additional people sustained injuries ranging from minor to critical. The ages of those involved have not yet been released, though early reports indicate that adults and children were among those hurt.

Investigation Ongoing

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation and said early evidence indicates the shooting may have been targeted, though detectives have not identified a suspect or disclosed a possible motive. The banquet hall remained closed Sunday as deputies continued processing the scene, collecting shell casings, reviewing surveillance footage and interviewing witnesses.

Officials have not confirmed whether more than one shooter was involved.

Community Impact

The attack marks one of the region’s most serious mass-casualty incidents of the year. Local officials urged residents with video or information to contact investigators as the search for answers continues. Additional patrols were deployed in the surrounding neighborhoods as a precaution.

Next Steps

Authorities are expected to release the names of the deceased once relatives have been notified. Autopsies and forensic reviews are underway as detectives work to reconstruct the events leading to the shooting.

The investigation remains active, and officials say further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
