Las Vegas Police Officer Shot; Suspect, Juvenile Found Dead Inside Southwest Valley Home

A Las Vegas police officer was wounded after authorities say a gunman opened fire from behind an interior door at a southwest valley home. SWAT officers later found the suspect and a female juvenile dead inside.

LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer was shot early Monday while responding to a violent incident at a southwest valley home where a woman reported being attacked and shot, according to police.

The confrontation ended hours later with an adult male suspect and a female juvenile found dead inside the residence, authorities said.

LVMPD said its communications center received a call at approximately 12:29 a.m. Aug. 10 from a woman in the 4500 block of Pigeon Point Court. The caller told dispatchers that a man was attempting to burn her with a blowtorch.

The emergency call was subsequently updated when the woman reported that she had been shot, according to the department.

Officer shot after police enter Las Vegas home

Responding officers learned that the male suspect was also attempting to set the house on fire, police said.

Officers entered the residence and approached a closed interior door. According to LVMPD’s preliminary account, the suspect opened fire through or from behind the door, striking one officer.

Another officer returned fire before officers withdrew from the residence, and the situation was formally declared a barricade.

SWAT officers and crisis negotiators were called to the scene as police established a perimeter around the home.

The wounded officer was transported to University Medical Center. LVMPD said Monday morning that she was in stable condition.

Female victim escapes during barricade

A female victim was able to leave the residence a short time after the initial exchange of gunfire, police said.

She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries sustained during the incident. Authorities had not publicly detailed the severity of her injuries as of Monday morning.

Police have not released the woman’s identity.

Suspect, female juvenile found dead

LVMPD SWAT officers eventually entered the residence and found the adult male suspect and a female juvenile suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Medical personnel pronounced both dead at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly disclosed the age of the juvenile or the relationship between the people involved.

Police also had not announced Monday morning who fired the shots that killed the suspect and juvenile. The preliminary LVMPD release therefore does not establish whether their fatal wounds resulted from police gunfire, the suspect’s gunfire or another sequence of events.

Homicide detectives investigating deaths

LVMPD homicide detectives responded to the home after SWAT officers discovered the two bodies.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office will identify the deceased and determine the official causes and manners of death.

Because an LVMPD officer fired a weapon during the confrontation, the incident is also being investigated under the department’s protocols governing officer-involved shootings.

Police classified the case as LVMPD’s 10th officer-involved shooting of 2026.

Under department policy, the identity of the officer involved in the shooting is expected to be released after 48 hours.

Investigation remains active

LVMPD said the investigation remains ongoing and additional information is expected as homicide detectives and the department’s Force Investigation Team examine the shooting.
