LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas News) — U.S. Rep. Dina Titus visited the construction site of the new Las Vegas Athletics Stadium this week, meeting with union workers and highlighting the role organized labor continues to play in shaping Southern Nevada’s tourism economy.
During the visit, Titus joined members of the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LIUNA) at the stadium construction site, where crews are actively working on the future home of the Oakland Athletics.
Photos shared from the visit show Titus greeting construction workers, shaking hands with laborers, and posing for a group photo with union members wearing high-visibility safety vests and hard hats at the active worksite.
“This exciting project is a prime example of how organized labor built Las Vegas and our tourism economy,” Titus wrote in a social media post accompanying the images. “Wonders like these would not exist without union laborers on the job.”
Major Tourism Infrastructure Project
The stadium project represents one of the largest ongoing construction efforts in Southern Nevada, with union crews handling everything from structural work to site preparation as the Major League Baseball facility takes shape.
The new ballpark is expected to anchor a significant redevelopment effort around the stadium district and bring thousands of construction and permanent jobs to the region.
Union workers from LIUNA and other building trades have been heavily involved in the project, continuing a long tradition of organized labor participation in major Las Vegas developments — from resort properties along the Las Vegas Strip to public infrastructure projects across the valley.
Labor’s Historic Role in Las Vegas
Titus emphasized that organized labor has been central to the growth of the region’s hospitality and tourism industries.
Las Vegas’ skyline, transportation infrastructure and entertainment venues have historically been built with strong participation from unionized construction trades, including laborers, electricians, carpenters, ironworkers and operating engineers.
Large-scale developments such as stadiums, arenas and resort expansions continue that legacy by employing thousands of skilled workers throughout the construction process.
Community Engagement With Workers
During the site visit, Titus spent time speaking with workers during a break period at the construction site, thanking them for their work and recognizing their contributions to the region’s economic development.
Construction crews gathered at temporary picnic tables on the site while meeting with the congresswoman, who greeted workers individually and participated in a brief group photo with the team.
The Athletics stadium project remains one of the most closely watched development projects in Las Vegas as the city prepares to host its first Major League Baseball franchise.
If completed on schedule, the ballpark will join other major professional sports venues in the valley, further expanding Las Vegas’ role as a national hub for sports, tourism and entertainment.
