Bruce Alan Whicker, 79, passed away on Oct. 1, 2026, surrounded by the family who loved him dearly. Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, in Independence Chapel at Greenwood Mausoleum, 3210 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth 76107. Interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park. Visitation: 6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, in Memorial Suite B at Greenwood Memorial Home, 3344 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth 76107. Bruce was born on June 3, 1947, in New Hampton, Iowa, to Donal Gene Whicker and Opal Theodora Allen. As the son of a military family, Bruce learned early that home could be many places. He attended elementary school in Alexandria, Louisiana, before his family eventually settled in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where he graduated from Gordon H. Garrett High School in 1965. He continued his education at Eastern Michigan University, spending four and a half years earning his bachelor’s degree in Geology. After graduation, Bruce answered another calling and joined the United States Army in Belleville, Michigan, on March 1, 1970. He completed Air Defense Artillery Officer training and rose from Second Lieutenant to First Lieutenant in November 1971. Bruce was honorably discharged from active duty in 1973 and continued serving in the Army Reserve until January 1976. That same drive and determination carried into his professional life. In 1973, while still serving in the reserves, Bruce started Whick’s Electro Freeze. Through the company, he distributed and serviced equipment while building lasting relationships with franchises and business owners across Texas. Bruce believed in hard work, showing up, doing things right, and taking care of the people who depended on him. Those qualities became as much a part of his reputation as the business itself. In November 1985, Bruce met the woman who would become the love of his life, Bobbie. Their story did not begin with instant fireworks. In fact, they did not initially see themselves as a match, but something kept them connected. They remained friends for years until 1993, when the friendship turned into something more. This time, the butterflies and sparks were undeniable, and from then on, they were rarely apart. Bruce and Bobbie married on Sept. 16, 1994, at the courthouse in Grapevine, Texas. Bruce did not simply gain a wife that day. He wholeheartedly embraced Bobbie’s three children as his own and built a family rooted in loyalty, laughter, and love. In 1998, Bruce and Bobbie bought their home in Arlington, where they would spend the rest of their years together. It became far more than a house. It was the gathering place, the party house, the holiday house, and the place where family and friends always knew they were welcome. Bruce and Bobbie recently celebrated 32 years of marriage, a life together filled with friendship, devotion, and countless shared memories. Entertaining was not simply something Bruce and Bobbie enjoyed. It was part of who they were. Parties, holidays, celebrations, or sometimes no reason at all were enough to open the doors of the Whicker home. They loved having people around them, sharing food, stories, laughter, and giving everyone a place to relax and take a load off. For good reason, the Whicker residence became the place everyone gathered. Bruce had a lifelong love of NASCAR and anything that moved fast. He could happily spend a day at Texas Motor Speedway, Daytona, or just about any racetrack, and he never made a secret of where his loyalty stood: Dale Earnhardt Sr. was his driver. That love of racing grew into an impressive collection of NASCAR memorabilia over the years. And if Bruce was not near a racetrack, there was a good chance he could be found sitting along the bank watching boats fly across the water. Whether it had four wheels or a propeller, Bruce appreciated speed. Bruce will be remembered for his remarkable work ethic, his loyalty, his strength, and the steady presence he brought into the lives of those around him. He was a man who worked hard, loved deeply, enjoyed life at full speed, and understood that some of the best moments were the ones spent surrounded by family and friends. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Donal Gene Whicker and Opal Theodora Allen, and his bonus son, Bobby Jack Roberson. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Bobbie; his bonus daughters, Christi and Lori Roberson; his grandchildren, Shelton Stephens, Bobby Jack Cunningham, Rody Rhodes, and McKinley McKee; his great-granddaughter, Rinley Rhodes; his nieces and nephews; his dog and very best friend, Yoyo Whicker; and a great many others whose lives Bruce touched during his time on earth. More than anything, Bruce leaves behind a lifetime of stories, traditions, laughter, and memories that will continue to be shared for years to come. His presence will be deeply missed, but the life he built and the people he loved are a lasting reflection of the man he was.
