Delfina V. Herrera Garcia, 93, a longtime resident of Fort Worth, passed away surrounded by her family on Oct. 2, 2026. Born in La Estancia Coixlahuaca, Oaxaca, on Dec. 25, 1932, Delfina traveled alone to the United States at the age of 18. She built a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion to her family. Delfina was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Nemesio Herrera Sr.; her son, Louis Velasco Herrera; her parents, Louis Velasco and Francisca Velasco Garcia; and her siblings. She is survived by her sons, Nemesio “Nemo” Herrera Jr. and Reymundo Herrera; her nephew, Hugo Velasco, whom she helped raise and loved as her own son; her grandchildren, Louis, Celia, Reymond Jr., Emilio, Robert, Anastacia, Desarey, Samantha, Jackie and Zoe; and her great-grandchild, D’Angelo. Though her name was Delfina, she was affectionately known as Gangon-a name given to her by her grandson and embraced by everyone who knew her. She was happiest surrounded by family, friends and especially her grandchildren, who brought her so much joy. A devout Catholic, Gangon showed her love through prayer offered for someone dear, and a candle lit for every big adventure her family would take. She also found happiness in her phone calls, coffee, her plants, and her flowers-the simple pleasures that were part of her everyday life. Family will remember her in those familiar moments: a cup of coffee, a flower in bloom, a meal shared, a prayer offered for someone dear. Her kindness, and unmistakable personality made her one of a kind. As her family says, there was nobody like her. Whether spending time together at home or traveling to places she had never imagined she would see, her greatest joy came from being with the people and friends she loved. They will miss her sweetness, her laughter, and her readiness to be by their side. A rosary will be held on Monday, Oct. 12, 2026, at 6:00-6:30 p.m. at Independence Chapel at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3210 White Settlement Rd., Fort Worth, with visitation to continue until 8:00 p.m. Rosary will continue for eight additional days, completing the nine-day novena at a different location. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Assumption Catholic Church in Fort Worth with interment to follow.
