LAS VEGAS — A man was fatally shot Thursday morning after an argument at a park in the southeast Las Vegas Valley, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

The shooting was reported about 8:39 a.m. June 4 after LVMPD Communications received a report of gunfire in the 4900 block of Lana Drive, police said in a Friday release.

Officers arrived and found a man at a park in the area suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Police said officers immediately began rendering aid before medical personnel arrived.

The man was taken to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

LVMPD’s Homicide Section responded to the scene and took over the investigation.

Detectives learned the victim and another man were near a picnic table in the park when they began arguing, police said. During the argument, the suspect pulled out a firearm and shot the victim before fleeing the area.

Police did not release the suspect’s name or description, and no arrest was announced in the initial release.

The Clark County coroner’s office will release the victim’s identity and determine the cause and manner of death.
