LAS VEGAS (LVN) — Assistant Sheriff Fred Haas detailed the events surrounding a police shooting and barricade that followed a pair of armed robberies on Dec. 17, 2025, during a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department briefing released Thursday.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, officers were first alerted at approximately 11:10 a.m. to an armed robbery in the 2500 block of South Fort Apache Road. Investigators said a suspect later identified as Jarvis Williams, 30, robbed a victim at gunpoint in the parking lot of a business and fled in a U-Haul van.

Roughly 20 minutes later, a second robbery was reported in the parking lot of a business in the 2100 block of North Rainbow Boulevard. Police said the suspect description and vehicle matched the earlier incident.

An LVMPD patrol officer, assisted by the department’s Air Unit, located a U-Haul van matching the description near West Lake Mead Boulevard and Rancho Drive. As officers followed the vehicle into a business parking lot in the 3900 block of West Lake Mead Boulevard, Williams exited the van and began walking toward the business, police said.

When an officer attempted to make contact and issued verbal commands, Williams failed to comply, returned to the U-Haul, and reversed the vehicle, striking a marked LVMPD patrol car. Police said Williams then fled at a high rate of speed, prompting a vehicle pursuit.

The pursuit ended in the 1900 block of West McDonald Avenue, where Williams exited the van, pointed a firearm at Officer Janette Gutierrez, and fired one round, striking her patrol vehicle, according to LVMPD. Officer Gutierrez returned fire but did not strike the suspect.

Williams then fled on foot to a nearby residence and refused to come out, leading police to declare a barricade. The LVMPD SWAT team and crisis negotiators were called to the scene. After negotiations, Williams eventually exited the residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

Authorities said no officers and no civilians were injured during the encounter.

The shooting is now under review by the LVMPD Critical Incident Review Team, which will examine policy compliance, tactics, and training related to the use of force.
