The Fort Worth Sports Authority approved its 2027 budget at an Aug. 11 meeting.
Members noted that the city collected $579,000 in gas lease royalties, including those from Texas Motor Speedway in north Fort Worth.
A 2008 settlement governs how that money is spent. The authority must put 75% toward improvements at or around Texas Motor Speedway. The remaining 25% goes to the city’s general fund.

Michael Crum, Fort Worth’s deputy director of special projects, noted that leasing income for fiscal 2026 was $100,000 and that investment income generated $120,000 annually.
“We made some changes a couple of years ago where we have the vast majority of the sports authority’s cash in either the money market or a certificate of deposit,” Crum said.
Investment income was lower than what was proposed last year. The authority’s proposed 2026 budget expected $186,132 in investment income.
The sports authority also elected officers:
- Chris Jamieson as the chair
- Michael Crain as vice chair
- Neil Barrow as secretary of the treasury
- Bob Jameson as assistant secretary of the treasury
On Aug. 31, sports authority members approved an extension of the lease agreement with Texas Motor Speedway through 2036.
The authority also passed an agreed sublease between the speedway and Taylor & Martin LLC, an auction house focused on the transportation industry, for the limited use of the speedway for trailer storage and sales purposes.
