LAS VEGAS — Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officers are investigating the department’s seventh officer-involved shooting of 2025 following a late-night foot pursuit that ended with a suspect being shot early Friday morning in the west Las Vegas Valley.
According to LVMPD, officers were patrolling near West Twain Avenue and South Valley View Boulevard at approximately 1:11 a.m. on Dec. 19 when they observed an unregistered vehicle and initiated a traffic stop.
While officers were attempting to identify the vehicle’s occupants, one passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers pursued the suspect to the 3600 block of South Procyon Street, where they located the man hiding behind multiple parked vehicles in a business parking lot.
Police said officers issued verbal commands, but the suspect refused to comply. During the encounter, the suspect began reaching toward his waistband, leading officers to believe he may have been armed.
An officer deployed a less-lethal option in an attempt to take the suspect into custody, but it was ineffective, police said. The suspect then advanced toward officers, at which point an officer discharged their firearm, striking the individual.
Officers immediately rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived. The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital and is reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries.
LVMPD confirmed the incident marks the seventh officer-involved shooting in the department in 2025. In accordance with department policy, the identity of the officer involved will be released after 48 hours.
LVMPD Captain Ryan Wiggins provided a recorded media briefing regarding the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
