Concord, NH – Attorney General John M. Formella identified the law enforcement officers who discharged their firearms during a shooting incident that occurred during a call for service on Oct. 8, 2026, in Bath, New Hampshire, involving Jeanne Seto.
Seto, 36, was reportedly armed and on her way to confront a family member when she was shot and later died. State Police and local police departments responded to a report that Seto was armed and driving to confront a family member with whom she had a dispute, according to a press release from Attorney General John Formella at the time.
Law enforcement located Seto’s vehicle around 7:04 p.m. Oct. 8 on Route 112 heading towards Bath. Despite commands to stop her vehicle, Seto did not comply. The resulting pursuit concluded after police deployed a spike strip, stopping Seto’s vehicle just south of the intersection of Route 112 and Route 302, the release said.
When troopers and an officer approached the vehicle, they found Seto armed with a handgun. During the interaction Seto suffered gunshot wounds and was then transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced deceased.
An autopsy performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner concluded Seto’s cause of death was multiple gunshot wounds, and her manner of death was homicide, the release said.
The officers who discharged their firearms during the incident were New Hampshire State Police Trooper Brandyn Humberstone and Trooper Juan Vargas, as well as Lincoln Police Sergeant Kris Lowe, Formella said.
Trooper Humberstone has been a law enforcement officer in the State of New Hampshire for two years and has worked for New Hampshire State Police during that time. Trooper Vargas has been a law enforcement officer in the State of New Hampshire for three years and has worked for New Hampshire State Police during that time. Sergeant Lowe has been a law enforcement officer in the State of New Hampshire for nine years and has worked for Lincoln Police Department during that time.
The exact circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
It is anticipated that the report regarding the incident and whether the involved law enforcement officers’ use of deadly force was justified will be released once the investigation is completed.
No further updates are expected until that report is released.
