CONCORD – Nicole Martin stood outside Broken Ground School by the doorway where voters were exiting after casting their ballots.  “I’m an independent researcher conducting a study,” she asked as the voters walked by.  “Do you have about 30 seconds?”

Martin is the founder and principal consultant at Integrated Resilience Partners, based in Jupiter, Florida.  The organization’s website says they specialize in “research-driven consulting” for organizations and communities. Mostly, she said, she studies “highly stressed professionals.”

A former resident of the Manchester area and summer visitor to the Lakes Region, Martin decided to do her own exit poll to find out what was on the minds of voters.  In addition to asking who people had voted for, she also wanted to know what issues were most important, drawing from a list similar to those being used by other pollsters.   She also asked what the most important characteristic of an elected official is, with options such as honesty, communication skills, and transparency.  (“Agrees with me on the issues” was not on the list.)

She said she’ll post the results on her new Facebook page and send them to New Hampshire news organizations, including InDepthNH.org.

Across the driveway, Hannah Buiel staffed a bake sale for the Broken Ground School PTA.  It was the first time they’ve held one on Election Day.  We agreed they lucked out on the weather.   I had a blueberry crumble bar.
