Un hombre que obtuvo más de $180,000 de familias de bajos ingresos mediante un esquema de robo de información bancaria que involucró la instalación de dispositivos para copiar datos de tarjetas en cajeros automáticos y terminales de pago fue sentenciado este viernes a dos años de prisión federal en San Diego.

Razvan Alexander Balu es uno de más de 50 acusados señalados por fiscales federales por sustraer dinero de cuentas de beneficiarios del programa CalWORKS, una iniciativa de asistencia pública que ayuda a familias con al menos un hijo a cubrir gastos esenciales como renta, vivienda, alimentos, ropa, servicios públicos y pagos médicos.

De acuerdo con un memorando presentado por la fiscalía para la sentencia, Balu intentó obtener al menos $227,570 de las cuentas de beneficios electrónicos (EBT, por sus siglas en inglés) pertenecientes a al menos 212 víctimas. Finalmente logró retirar $181,390. Su acuerdo de culpabilidad establece que los robos ocurrieron durante poco más de un mes.
