It’s been a full calendar year since The Oklahoma Eagle relaunched as a nonprofit newsroom in 2025, continuing its century-long mission to cover Tulsa’s Black community and underserved populations.
In the past 12 months, we’ve grown to become so much more — whether that’s convening community conversations, highlighting people making a difference around the community or shedding light on issues people are dealing with in their day-to-day lives.
Thanks to you all, we’ve grown our social following on Facebook, started an Instagram, launched a weekly newsletter and resumed our weekly print editions — which are now free and distributed in more than 70 locations across Tulsa. We’ve held in-person events helping people connect with each other and have ambitions to host more.
Our team consists of executive editor Gary Lee, managing editor Elliot Terrell, business reporter Ismael Lele, north Tulsa reporter Shaunicy Muhammad and Lucy Baptiste, who will join us in early November as our new general assignment reporter. We also are supported by a team of audience folks and editors who assemble the stories you read each week.
And we have big plans for the future as we continue to think of new and engaging ways to share the stories defining the city with you all. So, let’s take a trip down memory lane of what the past year has looked like.
To continue our growth going forward, we still need your support. Sign up for our newsletter, share it with a friend, give us a follow on social media and consider donating to our mission. Most importantly, keep sharing your ideas, thoughts and critiques with us as we seek to make this the best newsroom in the city.
