An Iowa City paramedic who allegedly drove an ambulance for the pediatric unit of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics is now facing child pornography charges.
Kanrry Kang, 24, of Iowa City, is charged with five counts of felony possession of items depicting sex acts with a minor. Kang has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Police allege two different devices and two Gmail accounts belonging to Kang contained 50 images and 10 videos depicting minors. In describing the images and videos, the police report states that “some were toddlers, and some were bondage.”
In an application for a search warrant, an Iowa City police officer told the court that in November 2025, he was assigned to investigate a tip that was received through the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children online portal. The tip was “from the software/social media company Google,” the application stated.
“Google advised the user (of an account) had uploaded four images between May 30, 2025, and November 6, 2025,” the application stated, adding Google also provided the “actual files containing the offending media.”
In a separate warrant application, Detective Tiffany Lord of the Iowa City Police Department told the court the images appeared to have been uploaded by Kang, who worked for Midwest Medical Transport, company that has a contract with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for ambulance service.
Lord told the court she then spoke to a UIHC employee who said Kang drove an ambulance for the hospital’s pediatric unit at one time. Lord said she later received data from Kang’s Google account that included images of Kang’s driver’s license, Social Security card, job applications and the images that were part of the original tip investigated by police.
In the warrant application, Lord said she then interviewed Kang and that he acknowledged possessing the images of children while stating that “he seldom looked at adult porn.”
The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services’ Bureau of Emergency Medical and Trauma Services has issued an emergency suspension of Kang’s paramedic license, citing his arrest.
A case management conference in the criminal case is now scheduled for Oct. 19, 2026.
