Verna Mae Mason – May 31, 1944 – Sept. 20, 2026

Verna Mae Mason, 82, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2026. Verna graduated from Menominee High School. She then went on to TCJC to obtain her associate degree in business management. Verna worked as a welder at Marinette Marine shipyard and became the first woman Journeyman Welder in Marinette, Wisconsin. She was laid off in 1984, and decided to move to Fort Worth and worked at Martin Sprocket and Gear as a welder. She decided to change career paths and went to college to get a degree in business management. She then went to work for Volunteers of America, then the Better Business Bureau. After that, she obtained employment with the Tarrant County Work Force Network and worked part time at Greenwood Funeral Home where she retired from both places. Verna was a loving mother to her children, a trusted friend to many and her best friend to her sister Lorri. She will be deeply missed. Verna was loved by many and never met a stranger. She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty Vaness; father, Harry Vaness Sr.; and sisters, Nancy Hoffman and Janice Brunette. She is survived by her son, Tom Parrett of Abrams, Wisconsin; daughters, Sandra Almonte of Godley, Texas, Beth Parrett of Bergland, Michigan, Becky Wehn of Paw Paw, Michigan and Liana Scott of Cleburne; siblings, Harry Vaness Jr. (Edie) of Pennsylvania, Augie Vaness (Raedean) of Wisconsin, Rose Vaness of Marinette, Wisconsin and Lorri Melchoir of Marinette, Wisconsin; ten grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
