Charles Waithaka Gathungu was born on Sept. 14, 1957, in Nyeri, Kenya, to the late Wilson Gathungu and Elizabeth Mugure. He peacefully departed this life on Oct. 27, 2026, in Milford, Massachusetts, USA, at the age of 69, following a long and courageous battle with illness. Charles was a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, thoughtfulness, resilience, and strong work ethic. Throughout his distinguished 45-year career, including more than 14 years of dedicated service to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Senior Analyst, he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues for his professionalism, dependability, and commitment. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Wilson Gathungu and Elizabeth Mugure, and his brothers, Jackson Maina and Samuel Mutiga. He leaves behind his loving brothers, James Muchiri, Stephen Waweru, and Paul Njuguna; sisters, Grace Gathoni, Esther Wangeci, and Hannah Wacuka; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish his memory. Despite years of illness and many challenges, Charles faced life with remarkable courage, strength, and an unwavering will to live. On the evening of Oct. 26, 2026, he spent precious time with his brother Stephen, in good spirits. In the early hours of Oct. 27, he peacefully went home to be with the Lord. As we celebrate his life, we give thanks for the memories, love, and lasting legacy he leaves behind. We find comfort in the words of Psalm 100:1–2: “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.” Though he will be deeply missed, we take comfort in knowing that Charles is resting peacefully in the loving arms of the Lord.
