LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas News) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department welcomed 29 newly sworn police officers Thursday as Police Officer Class 08-2025 graduated from the department’s academy, marking the newest addition to the agency responsible for policing the Las Vegas Valley.

The graduation ceremony celebrated months of intensive training and formally introduced the recruits to the department and community they will serve. Officials said the new class represents a wide cross-section of backgrounds, experiences and cultures that reflect the diversity of Southern Nevada.

According to LVMPD, the graduates range in age from 21 to 42 years old, with 12 officers fluent in multiple languages including Arabic, Iranian languages such as Farsi, Tagalog, Dari, Samoan and Spanish. Department leaders say bilingual officers play a critical role in a city known for its diverse population and millions of international visitors each year.

Ten of the new officers hold college degrees, while others bring experience from a variety of professions before entering law enforcement. Previous careers among the graduates include work as an aquatics director, busser, deli clerk, mechanic, electrician, EMT, landscaper, painter, warehouse associate and fire protection worker.

Several members of the class already had connections to the department prior to entering the academy. The group includes two former LVMPD Explorers, two former LVMPD Cadets and one former police officer. In addition, three recruits previously served in the U.S. military, bringing prior service experience into their new law-enforcement roles.

Fifteen of the graduates are Las Vegas natives, while two officers were born outside the United States — in Jamaica and the Philippines — highlighting the international roots common throughout the Las Vegas community.

During the ceremony, recruits stood together on stage and took their oath of office before family members, fellow officers and department leaders. Several graduates were also recognized for academic performance and training achievements during the academy program.

LVMPD’s academy curriculum includes physical conditioning, firearms training, defensive tactics, legal instruction and scenario-based policing exercises, designed to prepare recruits for the complex challenges of modern law enforcement.

Following graduation, the new officers will begin the department’s field training program, where they will patrol alongside experienced officers before being assigned to full duty throughout the LVMPD jurisdiction.

Department officials said the addition of the new officers strengthens the agency’s ability to respond to calls for service across the growing Las Vegas Valley.

“We’re honored to welcome these officers into the Metro family,” the department said in a statement announcing the graduates. “Their dedication, diversity and commitment will help shape the future of law enforcement in our community.”

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is the largest law enforcement agency in Nevada and serves the city of Las Vegas and much of Clark County, responding to hundreds of thousands of calls for service each year.

With the graduation of Police Officer Class 08-2025, the department adds a new generation of officers who will soon begin protecting neighborhoods, businesses and visitors across the Las Vegas Valley.
