Gorham, NH – Fire personnel continue to actively work to suppress the remote Wild River Fire. The fire is located approximately 7 miles southeast of Gorham, New Hampshire in Coos County, in the Wild River drainage, an estimated one mile west of the New Hampshire-Maine border. The Wild River Fire is approximately 378 acres and is estimated at 11% containment at the time of this release.
There was moderate fire growth on Monday, with fire personnel building and securing fire lines to confine the fire. Suppression strategies provide for firefighter safety in steep, rugged, and forested terrain. The Wild River Fire is actively burning in timber, snags, and leaf litter. Higher humidity is expected today, which will help to limit fire spread. Drought persists throughout the area. Over fifty personnel are currently assigned to the Wild River Fire.
Aerial resources, including a helicopter and drone, will be supporting reconnaissance and suppression activities. Use of unauthorized unmanned aerial systems (UAS), or drones, in a fire area endangers the lives of pilots and firefighters. Never fly unmanned aircraft over or near a fire.
Smoke may be visible in the surrounding area. If you encounter smoke when driving, slow down and turn on your headlights. Go to www.fire.airnow.gov for smoke information.
The Wild River Fire was first reported on Sunday afternoon, November 1, 2026, and the cause is under investigation. There are presently no significant threats to life or property.
