Clark County, Nevada — A new class of officers has graduated from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department academy after completing required training and taking the oath of office, county officials announced.

The officers completed a structured academy program that includes instruction in Nevada criminal law, constitutional policing, arrest procedures, report writing, firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, emergency vehicle operations, and first aid. Training also includes crisis intervention techniques, ethics, and community-oriented policing, which are required components for certification and deployment.

Following graduation, the officers are eligible to begin active duty assignments throughout Las Vegas and unincorporated areas of Clark County served by LVMPD. New officers typically enter a field training program, where they work under the supervision of experienced field training officers before being cleared for solo patrol.

The oath of office formally binds officers to uphold the U.S. Constitution and the Nevada Constitution and to perform their duties in accordance with state law and department policy. Taking the oath is a required step before officers are authorized to exercise law enforcement powers.

LVMPD is one of the largest police departments in the country and is responsible for policing a jurisdiction that includes the Las Vegas Strip, residential neighborhoods, and major tourist and event corridors. The department routinely adds new officers to address retirements, attrition, and ongoing staffing needs associated with population growth and high visitor volume.

The newly sworn officers are expected to be assigned across patrol areas and specialized units as operational needs require. Their addition increases the number of officers available for patrol, traffic enforcement, and emergency response as they begin their law enforcement careers in Southern Nevada
