LAS VEGAS (Nov. 3, 2025) — The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has released its official After-Action Report detailing the department’s response to the Tesla Cybertruck explosion that occurred on January 1, 2025, outside the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas.

According to the 75-page report, the department’s review aims to “strengthen future preparedness, enhance inter-agency coordination, and identify lessons learned to ensure officer safety and public protection.”

The document highlights LVMPD’s immediate deployment of the Bomb Squad, Fire Investigations Unit, and federal partners from the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force, who worked alongside private-sector security teams from the hotel and Tesla’s own engineering response division.

While no fatalities were reported, two officers sustained minor injuries while securing the blast perimeter. Nearby guests were safely evacuated within 11 minutes of the first explosion call. Investigators later determined that the Cybertruck’s modified high-density battery pack triggered a thermal runaway event, leading to an explosion that ignited several vehicles in the hotel parking area.

Key Findings and Recommendations

The After-Action Report outlines several strengths in LVMPD’s response:

• Rapid multi-agency coordination through the Southern Nevada Fusion Center.
• Effective crowd-control and traffic redirection preventing further injuries.
• Timely public communication via the department’s Public Information Office and social media alerts.

It also lists recommendations for future incidents, including:

• Expanded officer safety training in emerging-vehicle technologies such as EV battery containment and hazardous-materials response.
• Improved radio interoperability between local and federal partners.

LVMPD underscored that the collaborative effort between local, federal, and private-sector agencies was instrumental in mitigating the immediate threat and preserving public safety.

Chief Kevin McMahill commended first responders for their “swift, disciplined professionalism under extraordinary conditions,” adding that the lessons learned from the Cybertruck incident will guide future emergency-response policy and training updates.
