LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas City Council on Wednesday approved an interlocal agreement to establish a new Joint Communications Facility that will serve as a unified 911 dispatch center for the region.
The agreement formalizes a partnership between the city, Clark County, the City of North Las Vegas and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to jointly operate and manage the consolidated emergency communications center.
The facility will be built at the southeast corner of West Deer Springs Way and North Shaumber Road in the northwest Las Vegas Valley. Officials said the structure is being designed to blend with the area’s natural surroundings while incorporating secure, hardened infrastructure capable of supporting high-volume emergency communications and advanced dispatch technology.
City officials described the project as a regional investment intended to strengthen coordination among police, fire and emergency medical services agencies that respond across jurisdictional lines. By housing 911 call-taking and dispatch operations under one roof, leaders said the center is expected to streamline call routing, reduce duplication of services and improve response times.
Under the interlocal framework, the participating agencies will share operational responsibilities and costs associated with the facility. The unified model is designed to enhance interoperability, allowing dispatchers and first responders to access shared information systems and communicate more efficiently during large-scale incidents or disasters.
Supporters of the project said a centralized communications hub will provide greater redundancy and resilience during emergencies, including natural disasters and major public safety events, by consolidating technology platforms and ensuring continuity of operations.
Renderings released following the council’s approval show a low-profile facility designed to complement the surrounding landscape while housing secure communications equipment, dispatch floors and support infrastructure.
Officials said the Joint Communications Facility represents a long-term infrastructure investment aimed at improving regional public safety coordination and ensuring faster, more reliable emergency response for residents throughout Southern Nevada.
