LAS VEGAS (LVN) — A multi-agency traffic enforcement initiative launched in December 2025 has recorded thousands of stops and citations across Southern Nevada, according to new figures released by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Since its formation, the Southern Nevada Traffic Task Force has conducted 3,719 traffic stops and issued 3,992 citations. Of those citations, 2,518 were for speeding violations, making excessive speed the most frequently cited offense during the first phase of the program. Authorities also reported 38 vehicles were towed and 25 arrests were made in connection with enforcement operations.
The task force brings together the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Nevada State Police, North Las Vegas Police Department, Henderson Police Department, Clark County School District Police Department and Boulder City Police Department. The regional collaboration was created to address traffic-related injuries and fatalities through coordinated enforcement and increased officer visibility.
Officials said the majority of citations reflect continued concerns about drivers exceeding posted speed limits, particularly on high-volume arterial roads and near schools, residential neighborhoods and commercial corridors. Speed has consistently been identified by transportation safety officials as a major contributing factor in severe crashes.
In addition to speeding violations, officers have focused on other dangerous behaviors, including reckless driving, distracted driving and failure to obey traffic control devices. Law enforcement leaders say the goal is not only enforcement but deterrence — increasing patrol presence to discourage unsafe driving before crashes occur.

Motor officers and patrol units from participating agencies conduct joint operations across jurisdictional boundaries, concentrating on areas with higher crash rates or repeated complaints from residents. The coordinated approach allows agencies to share resources and deploy officers more strategically throughout the valley.
Police officials emphasized that the enforcement totals represent prevention efforts aimed at protecting motorists, pedestrians and cyclists. While citations and arrests are part of the process, authorities say the broader objective is to reduce serious injury and fatal collisions by encouraging voluntary compliance with traffic laws.
Southern Nevada has experienced steady population growth and increased roadway congestion in recent years, factors that law enforcement officials say can contribute to higher crash risks when combined with aggressive or inattentive driving.
Authorities continue to urge drivers to slow down, remain attentive and follow posted traffic regulations. Officials say safer roadways depend not only on enforcement efforts but also on responsible choices made by drivers throughout the community.
