LAS VEGAS — A violent chain-reaction crash that killed two people Tuesday on West Cheyenne Avenue has now resulted in upgraded charges for the 19-year-old driver accused of causing the collision, according to Las Vegas Metro police.
In an updated statement Thursday, LVMPD identified the driver of the Infiniti G37 as Jose Gutierrez, 19, who has now been re-booked on two counts of open murder, one count of attempted murder, and one count of battery with use of a deadly weapon. Police said Gutierrez remains hospitalized at UMC in LVMPD custody while receiving continuous medical care.
Deadly Crash Involving 12 Vehicles
The crash occurred around 3:29 p.m. on Nov. 18, 2025, on W. Cheyenne Avenue west of N. Jones Boulevard. Investigators said Gutierrez was driving eastbound at a high rate of speed when he failed to slow for a line of cars stopped at a red light. His Infiniti collided with multiple vehicles, setting off a large multi-vehicle chain reaction.
Police said twelve vehicles were ultimately involved.
Medical personnel pronounced two people deceased at the scene — the passenger in Gutierrez’s Infiniti, a 20-year-old woman, and another driver, a 38-year-old man in a Subaru Crosstrek. Their names are being withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
At least one passenger suffered life-threatening injuries and another person remains in serious condition.
Gutierrez was initially booked in absentia on four counts of reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm before the charges were upgraded Thursday.
The crash marks the 143rd and 144th traffic fatalities investigated by Metro in 2025.
