LAS VEGAS (Las Vegas News) — Outreach efforts in Las Vegas are helping connect homeless and at-risk youth to lifesaving services, as local organizations work to ensure vulnerable young people are seen, supported, and guided toward stability.

The Nevada Partnership for Homeless Youth (NPHY) partnered with University of Nevada, Las Vegas and the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District this weekend to host outreach events at UNLV and the Spring Valley Library, engaging youth and community members with critical information about available services.

The events focused on bridging a key gap faced by many young people experiencing homelessness: awareness and access. Representatives from NPHY provided guidance on resources, including emergency shelter, food assistance, healthcare referrals, education support, and pathways to stable housing.

“Outreach is often the first step in helping youth move toward stability,” organizers said during the events. “Many young people don’t know where to turn or may feel invisible. Showing up and starting a conversation can change that.”

Advocates say youth homelessness remains a persistent challenge across Southern Nevada, driven by factors such as family instability, economic hardship, and exposure to abuse or exploitation. In many cases, youth are unaware of available support systems or hesitant to seek help without a trusted connection.

At both locations, NPHY staff and volunteers spoke directly with attendees, distributing resource materials and answering questions about how to access services. Organizers emphasized that even brief interactions can lead to meaningful outcomes, with a single conversation potentially connecting a young person to food, medical care, counseling, or housing assistance.

The outreach efforts also highlighted the importance of collaboration between community institutions and service providers. By hosting events in accessible, familiar spaces such as college campuses and public libraries, organizers aim to reduce stigma and make it easier for youth to seek assistance.

Community members who attended the events described the information as practical and impactful, noting that increased awareness can help individuals identify and respond to signs of youth homelessness within their own networks.

NPHY officials said education plays a critical role in prevention, equipping educators, librarians, and residents with the knowledge needed to connect youth to support services before situations escalate.

The organization continues to expand its outreach footprint across Las Vegas, working with local partners to reach more young people in need and ensure resources are accessible where they are most needed.

As Southern Nevada continues to address homelessness, advocates say outreach will remain a cornerstone of effective response efforts.

Community members are encouraged to share information about available resources and help connect youth in need to support services across the region.
