LAS VEGAS — The Las Vegas Justice Court will honor participants in its Community Court Treatment Program during a Graduation and Promotion Celebration at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 23. The event will take place at the Regional Justice Center, 200 S. Lewis Ave., second floor assembly room #2342, in downtown Las Vegas.
Program Aims to Reduce Recidivism
The Community Court Treatment Program was developed to lower repeat offenses and improve overall quality of life for participants. The initiative combines judicial supervision for low-level misdemeanor offenders with access to comprehensive support services.
Through collaborations with nonprofit providers, government agencies, community groups, and justice partners, participants are connected to substance use treatment, education, job opportunities, and medical and disability resources.
“Community Court represents the collaboration of many partners who are committed to helping individuals succeed while ensuring accountability,” said Chief Judge Melisa De La Garza, who oversees the program. “This graduation is an opportunity to celebrate the progress of participants who are taking meaningful steps toward recovery, stability, and independence.”
Requirements for Graduation
To graduate, participants must complete at least nine months in the program and remain drug- and alcohol-free for a minimum of 60 days. Each person follows an individualized treatment plan, which may include:
- Substance use treatment at varying levels of care
- Individual and group counseling
- Randomized drug and alcohol testing
The program also helps participants reclaim vital identification documents and reconnect with critical community resources, such as:
- Medical, dental, vision, and mental health services
- Education and employment support
- Housing assistance and financial stability resources
- Family support systems
Public Welcome to Attend
The Oct. 23 ceremony is open to the public and welcomes family and friends of program participants.
