LAS VEGAS (LVN) — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month in the east Las Vegas Valley, according to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Police said 31-year-old Jaivone Jackson was identified by detectives as the suspect in the killing of a man who was shot in the front yard of a home in the 400 block of South 15th Street. Investigators said Jackson voluntarily turned himself in on Dec. 19 at the Clark County Detention Center, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Jackson was booked on charges of open murder with a deadly weapon and robbery with the use of a deadly weapon, police said. Jail records show he remains in custody as the case proceeds through the court system.
The shooting was first reported at approximately 2:08 a.m. on Dec. 2, when LVMPD Communications received a call about a man who had been shot. Officers responding to the scene located an adult male suffering from apparent gunshot wounds in the front yard of a residence. Officers rendered medical aid until emergency personnel arrived, police said.
The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The LVMPD Homicide Section responded and assumed the investigation. Authorities said the case remains under active investigation, and additional details have not yet been released.
The identity of the victim, along with the official cause and manner of death, will be determined and released by the Clark County Coroner’s Office, police said.
