Las Vegas, NV — Members of Las Vegas Fire & Rescue (LVFR), their families, and community leaders came together last week to celebrate a new class of promotions within the department. The ceremony, attended by Las Vegas City Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, highlighted the continued strength of leadership and dedication to public service that defines one of the most respected fire departments in the Southwest.
Held at the department’s headquarters near downtown Las Vegas, the event recognized firefighters, engineers, captains, and administrative staff who earned new ranks through years of service, training, and leadership development. Each honoree was commended for demonstrating courage, technical skill, and an unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of city residents.
Councilwoman Olivia Diaz, who represents Ward 3, praised the department’s legacy of excellence. “Las Vegas Fire & Rescue continues to set a standard of professionalism and compassion,” Diaz said. “Every promotion here today represents years of dedication and sacrifice — not just from these men and women, but from their families who support them every step of the way.”
Commitment to Safety and Professional Growth
Las Vegas Fire & Rescue operates more than 20 fire stations across the city and responds to approximately 100,000 emergency calls annually, ranging from structure fires and hazardous material incidents to medical emergencies and technical rescues.
In recent years, LVFR has invested in advanced firefighter training, modern fire apparatus, and community risk reduction programs, including initiatives focused on fire prevention, youth education, and emergency preparedness. The department also works closely with Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Clark County Fire Department, and regional emergency management teams to coordinate responses during major incidents and natural disasters.
Promotions within LVFR are highly competitive, involving written examinations, oral interviews, physical assessments, and evaluations of leadership performance. The process ensures that new officers possess not only operational expertise but also the ability to guide teams under extreme pressure.
A Legacy of Service and Excellence
Fire Chief Fernando Gray Sr., who has led the department since 2021, has emphasized a culture of accountability, inclusion, and innovation. Under his leadership, LVFR has strengthened its focus on firefighter wellness, mental health support, and recruitment of a more diverse workforce reflective of the Las Vegas community.
“This department has a proud history of responding when our community needs us most,” Chief Gray has said in past statements. “Each promotion is not just an individual achievement — it represents the collective commitment of a team that never stops training, improving, and caring for our city.”
Family and Community at the Heart of the Celebration
The promotion ceremony also recognized the critical role that families play in supporting first responders. Many attendees brought spouses, children, and parents to witness the milestone moments. Applause filled the room as each honoree’s name was called and new badges were pinned — a symbol of both accomplishment and renewed responsibility.

Looking Ahead
With continued investment in technology, training, and community engagement, LVFR remains one of the most advanced municipal fire departments in the western United States. The department’s dedication to continuous improvement helps ensure Las Vegas remains a safe, resilient city as it continues to grow.
Congratulations to all those promoted within Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. Your leadership and courage embody the very best of public service in our community.
