LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The famed Howard Hughes “Green House,” a modest but legendary bungalow tied to one of America’s most reclusive business magnates, is about to gain a new lease on life.

The Clark County Museum Guild announced it is spearheading a $1.6 million fundraising effort to move and restore the house, which once belonged to billionaire aviation pioneer and businessman Howard Hughes. The structure, currently sitting in the parking lot of 8 News Now (KLAS-TV), will be donated by the station to the Clark County Museum in Henderson.

Built in the early 1950s, the house served as one of Hughes’ residences during a period when he owned the television station. Though Hughes was known for his elusive lifestyle, the bungalow represents a rare physical remnant of his time in Southern Nevada, where his influence stretched from aviation and media to casinos and hotels.

Museum officials said the plan is to carefully move the bungalow to the museum grounds at 1830 S. Boulder Highway in Henderson, where it will be fully restored to reflect its original mid-century appearance.

“This house is more than just a building — it’s a piece of Las Vegas history,” a Clark County Museum Guild spokesperson said. “By relocating and restoring it, future generations will have the chance to step into a part of Howard Hughes’ world that helped shape our city.”

The Guild is actively seeking donations to meet its $1.6 million goal, which will cover the cost of transport, restoration, and long-term preservation.

The Clark County Museum is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Visitors can explore exhibits showcasing Southern Nevada’s history, including historic homes, artifacts, and rotating cultural displays.
