Pre-registration is required and will take place Feb. 25, 26 and March 3, 4, 10 and 11 at the East Las Vegas Library, 2851 E. Bonanza Road. Individuals must be pre-registered and approved by the Legal Aid Center to attend the June event.

Participants are required to obtain their SCOPE — Shared Computer Operations for Protection and Enforcement — from all arresting agencies before attending a pre-registration session. The SCOPE includes arrest and citation history reported to the state and is a critical component of the record sealing process.

Those attending pre-registration must bring their SCOPE documents, a valid government-issued ID and proof of income. Eligibility is based in part on income guidelines and statutory waiting periods under Nevada law.

Under current guidelines effective Oct. 1, 2017, certain offenses are ineligible for sealing, including crimes against children, felony DUIs, home invasion with a deadly weapon and sexual offenses. Waiting periods vary depending on the charge and may range from one year for misdemeanors and traffic violations to 10 years for certain violent felonies. Charges that were acquitted, dismissed or resolved through honorable discharge may qualify with no waiting period.

The Legal Aid Center advises individuals to contact the police departments where charges were incurred to request SCOPE documentation. Local agencies include the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, North Las Vegas Police Department and Henderson Police Department.

Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II, vice chair of the County Commission, encouraged residents to share the information with individuals who may benefit.

The Clean Slate Program is designed to help eligible Nevadans move forward after completing required waiting periods and meeting legal criteria for record sealing.

For additional information regarding eligibility requirements and documentation, individuals are advised to contact the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada.
