City of Las Vegas Announces 2026 Black History Month Activities, Marking 47 Years of Programming

The City of Las Vegas will mark its 47th consecutive year of Black History Month programming in 2026 with a full slate of public events designed to celebrate African American history, culture, and community contributions. Activities throughout January and February include awards ceremonies, performances, exhibitions, youth showcases, lectures, and recreational events held at multiple city facilities.

City of Las Vegas facilities will be closed Monday, Feb. 16, in observance of Presidents’ Day.

12th Annual African American Trailblazer Service Awards
Thursday, Jan. 29 | 9–11:30 a.m.
Las Vegas City Hall Council Chambers, 495 S. Main St.
Free with RSVP. The annual ceremony honors African American leaders who have made lasting contributions to the Las Vegas community. Seating is limited; reservations are available by calling 702-229-3401. The event will be streamed live on City of Las Vegas TV.

Good Time Catfish Fry
Thursday, Feb. 5 | 11 a.m.
Doolittle Active Adult Center, 1930 N. J St.
Tickets are $12. Advance registration is required by Feb. 3. The event offers an opportunity for community members to gather, socialize, and celebrate Black History Month traditions.

Night of Expressions Youth Talent Showcase: A Day of Talent & Festivities
Saturday, Feb. 7 | 2–4 p.m. (doors open 1 p.m.)
Sammy Davis Jr. Festival Plaza, Lorenzi Park
Free and open to the public. The showcase features local youth and young adults performing music, dance, acting, and spoken word. Youth ages 8–22 interested in participating must contact city staff by Jan. 23.

Toe Tag Monologues Live
Saturday, Feb. 7 | 2–4 p.m. (doors open 1 p.m.)
West Las Vegas Theatre, 951 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
Written by retired LVMPD officer R. Byron Stringer, the production presents real-life stories addressing the consequences of youth decision-making and encourages critical thinking through post-performance discussion.

The Corner Open Mic Presents: Love’s Canvas II
Friday, Feb. 13 | 7–10 p.m.
West Las Vegas Arts Center, 947 W. Lake Mead Blvd.
Free for ages 13 and older. The event invites poets, musicians, and performers to explore themes of love, healing, resistance, and community.

Satchmo Sings Four Women
Saturday, Feb. 14 | 2–4 p.m. (doors open 1 p.m.)
West Las Vegas Theatre
A theatrical performance inspired by the life and marriages of jazz legend Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, blending music and storytelling.

Mid-Day Inspirational Showcase & Luncheon
Thursday, Feb. 19 | 11 a.m.
West Las Vegas Theatre
The showcase is free and open to the public and celebrates nearly five decades of Black History Month programming. A soul food luncheon follows immediately after; lunch tickets are $12 and must be purchased in advance.

Black Weekend 2026: Kemet in the Desert Series
Friday & Saturday, Feb. 20–21 | 7 p.m. (doors open 6 p.m.)
West Las Vegas Theatre
The 13th annual Black Weekend series highlights African history, culture, and religion, featuring nationally recognized educators and presenters. Seating is first-come, first-served.

10th Annual Generation-2-Generation Softball Game and Family Fun Day
Saturday, Feb. 21 | 12 p.m.
Kianga Isoke Palacio Park at the Doolittle Complex
Free for spectators. The intergenerational softball game pairs youth teams against adults, with refreshments available while supplies last.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Youth Basketball Tournament
Wednesday–Friday, Feb. 25–27 | 4 p.m.
Doolittle Community Center, 1950 N. J St.
A single-elimination youth tournament held in honor of Peace Week 2026. Participation is free for qualifying teams; the public is welcome to attend as spectators.

City officials encourage residents and visitors to participate in the monthlong celebration, noting that the programming reflects the city’s ongoing commitment to honoring Black history, culture, and civic leadership in Las Vegas.
