LVMPD Officer Dwayne Henderson Honored as Black History Month Trailblazer

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Officer Dwayne Henderson was recognized for his leadership and community impact during the 12th Annual African American Trailblazer Service Award ceremony, held in celebration of Black History Month.

Henderson received the Community Activism and Politics Award, an honor recognizing individuals whose work demonstrates sustained leadership in advocacy, community engagement and public policy efforts that improve quality of life. The award highlights service that strengthens neighborhoods and builds trust across institutions.

A longtime advocate for community engagement, Henderson has been committed to public service since the age of 15. He has served in law enforcement since 2006 and joined LVMPD in 2015. Throughout his career, he has emphasized mentorship, outreach and relationship-building between law enforcement and the communities they serve.

Within LVMPD, Henderson plays a key role on both the Community Engagement Redirection and Education Team and the Homeless Outreach Team, where his work focuses on problem-solving, education and connecting vulnerable individuals with resources. He also coordinates the LVMPD Black Community Alliance and serves as a leader within the Black Police Association, promoting unity, education and collaboration among officers and community members.

Colleagues and community partners describe Henderson as a dedicated public servant whose work reflects integrity, compassion and accountability. In addition to his professional service, he is recognized as a devoted family man and lifelong learner committed to making a lasting, positive impact across Southern Nevada.

The Trailblazer Service Award ceremony honors African American leaders whose contributions continue to shape and strengthen the community. Henderson’s recognition underscores the role of community-focused policing and leadership in advancing trust and opportunity.
